Prince George Surgery Centre has a team of six Orthopedic Surgeons, all of whom are Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC). These surgeons conduct all types of Peripheral Orthopedic Surgery. Typical cases range from mild trauma such as hand and wrist or tendon injuries to anterior or posterior cruciate (knee) repairs and shoulder surgery.
Dr. Michael Moran is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia. He graduated in Medicine from the University of London and later completed his Residence in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of British Columbia. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Moran has served as the President of the Northern Medical Society and as a Director of the BC Orthopedic Association. He currently participates in the BC Provincial Orthopedic panel and is co-founder of the Prince George Surgery Centre.
Dr. David Nelson is a Fellowship trained Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. Nelson received his medical schooling and orthopedic training at the University of British Columbia followed by Fellowship training in Sydney, Australia. He is a current Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Purnell is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He received his Degree in Medicine from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom before completing his orthopedic training at the University of Alberta. Dr. Purnell holds Fellowships in Upper Extremity Surgery from the University of Western Ontario, Hand and Microvascular Surgery from the University of Saskatchewan, and Trauma Surgery from the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Paul van Zyl is a graduate of the University of Stellenbosch Medical School and completed his orthopedic training at the University of the Free State in South Africa. He practiced medicine in a training hospital in South Africa prior to arriving in Canada. He holds a Fellowship in Shoulder Arthroscopy earned in Winnipeg Manitoba and is currently a Board certified Orthopedic Surgeon practicing at the University Hospital of Northern BC.
Dr. Hendrik Dreyer is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon at University Hospital of Northern B.C. Dr. Dreyer was educated in Cape Town, South Africa where he graduated in Medicine at the University of Stellenbosch. He completed his Residency in Orthopedic Surgery and did additional post graduate training in Adult Reconstructive Orthopedics at Tygerberg University Hospital. Since relocating to Prince George, Dr. Dreyer has completed the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada and obtained his Orthopedic Fellowship from the Royal College of Canada (FRCS©) He is currently a staff member of the Department of Comprehensive Orthopedics at UHNBC, and a Clinical Instructor for the UBC Orthopedic Residency and Undergraduate Medical Programs. In addition to his clinical responsibilities he is a member of the BC Orthopedic Association and sits on the Deal Governance Steering Committee for HSSBC.
