Assisting with positioning, instrumentation, and lighting, our team of Surgical Assists have provided intra-operative support to our General and Orthopedic teams since 2004. Their dedicated presence and enthusiasm are highly valued, and has enabled our team to achieve the best results possible.
Dr Lawrence (Laurie) Cook is a long time Doctor and Surgical Assistant in Prince George who is now retired from family practice. Since the founding of Prince George Surgery Centre Dr. Cook has provided his services to assist surgeons in our Operating Room. He has a BSc (Acadia) and MD with Honours (Dalhousie).
Dr. Ian Schokking is a UBC Clinical Associate Professor in Family Medicine where he serves as the Prince George site research and evidence based medicine lead faculty. He has a full service practice that includes inpatient, emergency, nursing home and obstetrical work. Prior to setting in Prince George in 1994 Dr. Schokking served as a Physician in Sir Edmond Hillary's Khunde Hospital in Nepal and as a Surgeon on the Kashmiri Border in Northern Pakistan. Dr. Schokking is an MD graduate of the University of Toronto and received his Masters in Epidemiology at McGill.
Dr Devin Spooner is an Emergency Physician at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia. He graduated in Medicine and completed his Family Practice Residency from the University of British Columbia in addition to completing his certification in Emergency Medicine at St Paul's hospital. He performs surgical assists at the Prince George Surgery Centre and UHNBC.
