Liposuction, or fat sculpting, is an operation to remove excess fat and reshape problem areas such as your tummy, love handles (flanks), thighs, or buttocks. Liposuction is ideal for people who have stubborn fat that does respond to diet or exercise, as well as to complement other cosmetic surgery procedures. It can be combined with abdominoplasty (or a “tummy tuck”) to create a smoother midsection and remove any excess skin, or used in gynecomastia surgery to reduce the appearance of male breast enlargement. It is often a part of a larger body lift treatment.
Prince George Surgery Centre uses a comfortable and safe technique known as semi-tumescent liposuction. This procedure is performed by injecting the surgical area with fluid prior to suctioning out fat, in order to minimize blood loss, bruising, and swelling. This fluid includes an anesthetic to minimize pain, and epinephrine and sterile saline. Incisions are usually small, and scarring is minimal.
Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss, but can help improve the appearance of the body contour by removing localized deposits of fatty tissue.
